Looking for an audit?
We don't perform audits. We serve more as an outsourced accounting department, performing everything from front-line accounting to tax preparation to audit coordination to budgeting and other advisory CFO services. This means we’re not considered “independent” for purposes of an audit.
However, many small or medium nonprofits who think they need an audit don’t actually need one. Audits are not designed to benefit the organization itself, but to give outside parties (funders, lenders) some assurance about the reliability of financial statements. For that reason, we generally don't recommend an audit unless a funder strictly requires it. Lots of our clients’ funders ask for it in their boilerplate information, but when we actually talk with them about the costs vs alternatives, they are often more comfortable with an alternative engagement. Sometimes, all it takes is a conversation with them to explain what our firm does routinely for the client.
We’re happy to discuss with you further the difference between an audit and other, less costly services that may meet your needs, such as financial statements compilations, agreed-upon procedures, and internal controls assessments. If you do decide an audit is what you need, we can help you with the RFP process, preparing the books for the auditors, and coordinating the audit process.
